On July 11th, 2014, Isaac treated us to a Hot Air Balloon Ride in Cincinnati, OH. Our feet hit the floor at 5 am in a rush to lift of at 6:15 am at Sunrise at a small airfield just outside of town. After doing a splash and go on mirror-esque lake, we soared over a river and lush landscapes, brushing tree tops to arrive at a “Hot Air Ballon challenge”.
Though what I was told was a target (a common Hot Air Balloon contest), turned out to be a sign with the words “Will You Marry Me?” written on it. Isaac got down on one knee, and though his very distracted girlfriend was obsessively taking pictures out the other side of the balloon, he was as patient as he could be. In the zone, I was interrupted by not only the Pilot’s incessant barkings “What does that sign say?!” and “look at the sign!”, Isaac also prompted me with a swift tap on the leg. After finally seeing the sign, I dumbfoundedly turned to Isaac, aghast that the moment was here. Sweet, simple, and unscripted, Isaac asked “So uh, Kels, will you marry me!?”. To which I failed to audibly reply, but Isaac knew my excitement and “oh my gosh”s were a definite yes!!
Though me shaking my head was enough for Isaac, the pilot and the news crew back at the launch site (who happened to be there for the balloon festival as well), wanted a concrete answer.
Easy enough: “Yes!”
A Few “Thank You’s”:
To Anne for our Beautiful New Family Heirloom/My Ring:
My now fiancé and I had just returned from visiting family in Australia, when we entered the doors of David Fairclough. It was our first consultation with Anne to explore a custom design for an engagement ring. Everyone at DF was so incredibly accommodating and knowledgeable. Anne had asked me what I was looking for; something elvish (Lord of the Rings style), and that I loved the Art Nouveau time period.
Being Valentine’s Day, we thought we would make a day of it. So we stopped at a big name jeweler to contrast, and get more ideas to bring to the next design meeting. Their sales staff was on us in a hot second; we literally backed ourselves out of the store in horror. That experience really solidified our desire to work with Anne. We wanted to work with an artist; not a sales person.
Anne took her time with us, kept us in budget, and even worked with our own diamond. Now I have a stunningly exotic ring with unusual pink diamonds and green sapphires (I get so many compliments I have to make myself stay humble about it!). The best part is, it has gems from both of our home countries; America and Australia, all part of Anne’s plan to bring significance into the ring! Now I will always look down at my ring and see it as it should be: perfect. My fiancé and I are artists ourselves. Though we were tough critics, Anne really listened to my input every step of the way. What Anne created for us wasn’t just an engagement ring, but a piece of art and an heirloom. Anne- You are an absolutely brilliant artist, we are so happy to have an “Anne Original”!!
